Before FW2020 our size range only included sizes Small, Medium Large.
I had initially launched this brand with sizes XS and XL but I was struggling to sell any size after launching and had to limit myself to the bare minimum after that. During the summer of 2020, during the pandemic I almost sold out of my collection and even was selling out of older styles as well. I took this influx on interest and cashflow as an opportunity to invest in adding more sizes, since this was always something I wanted to do.
I started by adding sizes XL and XXL in the FW2020 collection with the help of my fit model, Jennifer. Since then, I reflect on our goals every year or two and set new ones. We have since also added size XS and 3XL. I know there is still a long way to go and my ultimate goal is to be size inclusive, however I am trying to do so in a slow and steady way where I can manage my finances and my workload as a solo-preneur.
Since I have mostly been sharing these goals and acheivements on our instagram, I thought it was a good idea to share them on our site in a more permanent way as well.
For 2023-2024 we worked on reorganizing the naming of our sizes and addressing the gap between our Large - 1X sizes.
Renaming our sizes:
Our previous XL, XXL and 3XL are being changed to 1X, 2X and 3X respectively.
We found that the 1X format was more inline with our actual sizes since our grading changes from S,M,L to those sizes. Nothing in the sizing will change, just the names. If you previously bought something in XXL and you found it was the right size for you, when shopping our new styles, you should purchase the 2X.
Addressing the gap between Large and 1X (previously XL):
Because of our sizing, there was a significant gap between our Large and our 1X size. We are fixing that by slowly introducing a new size XL which will be graded similarly to our straight sizes.
In order to ease the transition and limit confusion, we are first focusing on changing the names of plus sizes to the 1X, 2X, 3X.
Our current goal is to introduce the new XL size for Spring/summer 2024.
The new size offering will look like this:
XS, Small, Medium, Large, XL, 1X, 2X, 3X.
During this transitionary period however, it will look like this:
XS, Small, Medium, Large, 1X, 2X, 3X.
At my current workload, this new offering of 8 sizes will be my maximum ability. However, as I grow my business I would love to be able to add XXS, 4X, 5X. This is something I hope to achieve in the next 5-10 years, hopefully it's something I can do.
I know that our current offering is still limited and I have not earned the title of a size inclusive brand. I am really proud of what I have been able to achieve so far and I know a lot of our clients are too. I appreciate everyones support and interest in my brand.
Another goal of mine is to continue to represent these sizes in our photoshoots and representation. I have been finding models up to 2X fairly easily, however I find our size 3X under represented in our photos and would love to be able to feature more of that size in our shoots. If you are a size 3X and are interested, please reach out to me at info@lightsofall.com. I would also love to find more influencers to collaborate with in the plus size range, if you are that person also reach out please!
Our 2024-2025 update and goals:
I am happy to say that this season (SS24), our new size XL is added in and our new size range is XS, Small, Medium, Large, XL, 1X, 2X, 3X. I believe the new size is the perfect in between for those who felt the Large was too small and the 1X was too big for them. If you were previously buying our XL and are still happy with that size, please be sure to purchase the 1X in the futute, as the sizing in that one is the same, only the name changed.
-Perfect the XL size - as it is a new size, I want to hear feedback from clients as to how the size is and if it is really meeting the sizing needs I am trying to fill.
-Continue to show our full size range in our photos.
-Add in some knitwear hopefully for FW24 and find a manufacturer who can include all our sizes.
